Experiments in sound and transmission begin September 2026. WPNX is a low-power FM community radio station being built in public — through programming, participation, and collaborative events.
We are not a finished institution. We are a community experiment.
Free Radio Pensacola and WPNX are honored to host the 30th Annual Grassroots Radio Conference — a national gathering focused on radio practice, infrastructure, and participation in community radio.
It brings together station builders, engineers, programmers, organizers, artists, and listeners to share practical knowledge about how community radio is built and sustained. All event fees are included in conference registration.

Support station operations, events, programming, and community outreach. No prior radio experience required — basic training provided.
WPNX accepts proposals for locally produced radio programming — music, conversation, interviews, experimental sound, cultural programming, or community storytelling.
As WPNX develops, we will offer hands-on learning in radio production, broadcasting, and transmission practice. GRC 2026 is the first major opportunity.

WPNX 107.7 FM is a low-power FM community radio station in formation, broadcasting from the roof of The SCI Building at 220 West Garden Street in Downtown Pensacola. The station is operated by Free Radio Pensacola, a nonprofit organization focused on community media, independent broadcasting, and public access to the airwaves.
WPNX is part of a broader effort to rebuild local broadcasting capacity through hands-on participation and shared media practice. Its approach is informed by community radio traditions that emphasize local control, shared technical knowledge, and public involvement in station building and programming.
Rather than operating as a finished institution, WPNX is a community experiment being developed in public — through programming, participation, and collaborative events. The station grows through involvement rather than fixed programming alone.
In September 2026, Free Radio Pensacola will host the 30th Annual Grassroots Radio Conference in Pensacola. This year it becomes a public extension of WPNX itself — connecting national grassroots radio practice with local participation in Pensacola.
WPNX treats radio as a shared practice. Participation is not limited to broadcasting. It includes listening, contributing, documenting, organizing, and helping shape the cultural life of the station.
Community members can contribute by proposing and producing radio programs, volunteering in station operations and events, participating in workshops and training, and engaging with live broadcasts and cultural programming.
WPNX 107.7 FM is community radio — built and sustained by the people who believe local media matters. Every dollar goes directly to keeping the transmitter on, the doors open, and the airwaves free.
